From a work by Inbal Leitner
A magical new kid event and exhibition, “Journey Among Dreams” will run from September 28 to October 20th and after a two week hiatus, it will continue until the end of 2012 at the Jaffa Museum of Antiquities, 10 Mifratz Shlomo Street in old Jaffa.
Don’t miss it!
The theme is the dreams of children - and the exhibition includes paintings, animated films, workshops and kids’ activities.
I have to give credit to my talented friend Limor Lahav who is the heart and brains behind this unique show. (Limor is married to Israeli DJ Ilya of the Fetish and Bootleg line, one of the best underground clubs in Tel Aviv. Find out more in our page on Tel Aviv nightlife).
In a project titled ‘el monstruo de colores no tiene boca’ (translated from the Spanish as 'a colorful monster without a mouth') - Mexican-born Roger Omar, the dream collector, documented 8,000 dreams from children from all over the world!
‘I dreamed that my dog was a colorful lizard’ - Melanie
Artist Israel Barrón
Inspired by this amazing dream collection, the exhibition displays evocative works of art and animated videos based on the children’s dreams. The artwork was created by Israeli artists and painters from 14 other countries.
‘Today I dreamed I was in heaven and the dragon told me to climb on his back and he’d take me to the light. He did, and when we arrived I entered the light and my mother woke me up.’ - Tofol
Artist Sebastian Koch
This magical event evokes memories of dreams, fantasy, hopes and fears, childhood innocence and simplicity.
The animated 3D film Journey Among Dreams debut’s at this kid event - a film for children about dreams, fantasy and science.
The paintings, crafts and animated films are moving and thought provoking. Take a look at this amazing short animation created by Israeli Gal Daniel:
Israeli schools and television programs encouraged Israeli children to document their dreams and aspirations into drawings, paintings and texts. Three of the best were converted into short animated films that you can see at the exhibition.
In case you fall in love with one of the pictures, most of the original Israeli art work is for sale at incredibly reasonable prices ranging between $200 - $750.
On weekends and during Sukkot (Tabernacles) when Israel kids are on holiday for over a week, there will be fun and creative workshops and kids’ activities.
This family and kid event takes place in the renovated Jaffa Museum of Antiquities, a beautiful and architecturally unique building in the heart o old Jaffa. Built in the 1700’s, the building served as the government house of the Turkish Ottoman rulers.
Wandering around Jaffa with its winding streets and special is not to be missed. For more ideas on what to see and do, visit our page on old Jaffa.
